Focus and Scope
AFROEUROPA: Journal of Afroeuropean Studies wants to contribute to the emerging field of Afroeuropean or Black European Studies by providing an interdisciplinary space of encounter for practitioners working in different fields of academic expertise, including History, Literary Criticism and Theory, Cultural and Media Studies, Fine Arts, Musicology, Demographics, Sociology, Human Geography, Postcolonial Studies, Gender Studies and so on. AFROEUROPA also aims to be a forum for artistic and creative expression, publishing short stories, poetry, photography, video or any other form of art which can supported by a multimedia format. Book reviews, interviews and announcements for all sorts of events related to the main topic are also welcome. As opposed to the common practice, we are open to a multiplicity of European languages, prominent among them Spanish, English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.
Although we prioritize the geographical context of the European Union, and in particular comparative analyses within the framework of the Union, we are aware of the need to consider the wider space of the Black Diasporas in America and the Caribbean, as well as the African continent itself.
Against the voices claiming for a white, Christian and Greco-Roman Europe, we vindicate the ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic plurality of Europe in the past, the present and the future, and we understand that this plurality should be understood vis-à-vis a commitment to social justice, equality, conviviality and respect.
